CGFNS evaluates an applicant's education and registration credentials to certify that the applicant is a first-level, general nurse and meets all of the registration requirements to be licensed as a professional in that field.
The credentials review looks at theoretical instruction and clinical practice in five major areas of nursing: Adult Medical Nursing, Adult Surgical Nursing, Maternal/Infant Health Nursing (Obstetrics), Care of Children/Pediatrics, and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Generally, it does not examine additional education in the sciences, humanities, or other areas of study
