HEC Tertiary Education Support Programme

Islamia College in HEC's 'W' category
Lahore, Aug 15: The Government Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road, has been placed in 'W' category in an evaluation survey of 102 colleges of Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission under Tertiary Education Support Programme (TESP).The HEC awards 'W' category to the institutions that earn above 80 per cent evaluation score.

In an appreciation letter to college Principal Farzana Shaheen, the Punjab Higher Education Department stated, "This is indeed an honour for and tribute to your college and the Higher Education Department."

The letter by the additional secretary (academics) further read, "The Higher Education Department admires you and your team for the commitment towards the cause of teaching and learning".

The secretary said she was personally impressed by Shaheen's endeavours in maintaining high level of motivation and focus of her faculty and staff despite challenges ass well as by the untiring efforts of college faculty and staff members.

GCUF declares BA/BSc results
Faisalabad: The Government College University, Faisalabad, has announced results of BA/BSc (Composite) examinations 2013 on Tuesday with pass percentage being 49.45 per cent.

Around 5,967 students appeared in the BA exam out of whom 2,925 passed; 680 students appeared in the BSc examination with 362 passing it.

Muhammad Ammar from the Government Postgraduate College, Samundri, overall topped the BA/BSc exams with 628 marks out of 800. Iqra Ghaffar from Government College for Women, Samundri, stood second with 625 marks and Ayesha Khushnood from Government College for Women, Dijkot, got the third position with 625 marks.

Ayesha Khushnood topped the BA examination with 625 marks, Rubina Ahmad from Government College for Women, Tandlianwala, stood second with 611 marks and Maria Liaquat from GC for Women, Dijkot, stood third with 609 marks.

In the BSc exam, the top position was secured by Muhammad Ammar from the Government Postgraduate College, Samundri, with 628 marks, whereas Iqra Ghaffar from GC for Women, Samundri, stood second with 625 marks and Rafaqat Ali from TI College, Chenab Nagar, Chiniot, got the third position with 621 marks.

The overall passing percentage of girl students was 58.31 per cent and 33.75 per cent for boys. Dawn

Two thieves caught at PU
Lahore: The Punjab University security staff caught two thieves who were stealing copper wire while their three accomplices managed to escape.According to a press release here on Monday, the PU spokesman informed that Nasir Mushtaq and Shan Aziz were cutting copper into pieces in rose field after stealing it. Assistant Security Officer Shahbaz Ahmed and six others closely watched their activities and caught the two thieves red-handed. On resistance, security guard Abbas sustained a minor injury.
