BA/BSc pass percentage drops to 37.28
Lahore, Aug 22: Female students dominated in the annual examination of B.A/BSc 2013 of Punjab
University after they grabbed most of the positions in both the
disciplines. PU announced results of BSc/B.A on Wednesday
during a ceremony held at Al Razi Hall in which PU Acting Vice
Chancellor Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, PU Additional Registrar Prof Dr Aurangzeb
Alamgir, Additional Controller Ahmed Ali Chatha, Acting Treasurer Rao
Muhammad Sharif, Deputy Controller Examinations Khurram Inayat, heads of
various departments, relatives of position holders and other officers
of Examination Department participated. A total of
1,34,880 candidates (both male and female) appeared in the exams, out of
which 50,281 were declared as pass candidates. The percentage of pass
students remained low at 37.28 as compared with last year's 39.85. All
the three top positions in BSc went to female students, including Sadaf
Ismael, a BSc student of Punjab College for Women, Civil Lines,
Gujranwala, Roll Number 21914, who got overall first position by
securing 706 marks out of 800. Second position in BSc went to Sadia
Nawaz of Punjab College of Science Faisalabad, Roll Number 15142, who
obtained 699 marks. Gulfam Shahzadi, Roll Number 124414, of Punjab
College of Science Sialkot grabbed third position in BSc by securing 684
marks. In B.A, Maria Nawaz, a private candidate of Toba
Tek Singh, Roll Number 18736, stood first and secured 669 marks.
Muhammad Fahad Arshad, a private candidate from Lahore, Roll Number
84208, got second position by securing 666 marks. Chand Hayat Bibi, a
private candidate of Gujranwala, Roll Number 20204, grabbed third
position by obtaining 664 marks. PU Acting VC Dr Liaqat
Ali announced cash prizes for position holder students. He gave one
hundred thousand each to first position holder students in BSc and B.A
whereas Rs 75, 000 were given to both second position holders in BSc and
B.A, and he gave Rs 65, 000 each to both third position holder students
of BSc and B.A respectively. Sadaf
Ismael said that it was because of prayers of her parents and hard work
of her teachers that she gad won first position in BSc. She said she
wanted to become a scientist to serve the country. To a question, Sadaf
said every one had to recognize his/her duty and role then the situation
of the country would be improved. "It is time to change oneself," she
observed. Maria Nawaz, who grabbed first position in B A,
said that she wanted to do Masters in Arabic. She said she had done
hard work to grab the position and studied at her own. "Due to financial
circumstances, I have to give tuition to students to carry on my
studies," Maria added. Speaking on the occasion, Dr
Liaqat Ali said Quran had repeatedly stressed upon the need to focus on
education, adding that only those nations could progress who gave
importance to education. Dr Liaqat Ali said that the
Muslims ruled the world for centuries when they were equipped with
knowledge. He said that the basic reason behind the downfall of the
Muslim nation was their distance from education. He lauded Punjab Chief
Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for his vision of independence
from ignorance and he had also introduced revolutionary reforms in
education sector in his previous tenure. On behalf of
Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dr Ali announced that free education
would be provided to position holders in the Punjab University. He
thanked Treasurer Office, Engineering Branch and IT Department for
provision of support to declare result in time and manage power outages
with the help of generator. He appreciated examination staff for
preparing transparent result in time. He also announced rupees two

Suppl exam in October
Lahore: The Punjab University has announced that the
BA, BSc (supplementary) examinations for 2013 will be held in the second
week of October. The university will receive admission forms for the supplementary examination till Sept 5.
The PU has also announced that the BA/BSc annual examination for 2014
will be held in April-May 2014. The university will receive admission
forms for the annual exam till Oct 20. Dawn

9th class result announced
Lahore: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore, has announced annual result, 2013, of 9th class on Wednesday. According
to a press release issued here, a total of 214975 candidates of both
Groups (Science and Arts) participated in the exam, out of which 84,868
students (both male and female) were declared as pass. The percentage of
pass candidates remained at 39. 48. In Science Group, 26975 male and 50066 female students participated and among them 29563 were declared as pass. In Arts Group, 41738 male and 7039 female students participated and out of those 21291 were declared as pass. The news

Less then 40% students pass class 9 exams
Lahore: The Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education
(BISE) announced the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) class 9 annual
examination results on Wednesday. The passing percentage was recorded at
39.48%. This year 214,975 candidates appeared in the examination and
only 84,868 were able to pass, meaning that 60.52 percent of the
