'Legal notice has no value in PU land lease issue'
Lahore: A Punjab University spokesman has said that there is no value of legal notice sent by the Judicial Activism Panel, as the university administration is bound to obey the decision of the PU Syndicate to lease 50 kanals of land.
The spokesman said that a specific group disliked progress being made by the Punjab University and was trying to create hurdles in its way. He said that the people making useless noises had been rejected by teachers in the recent elections, and they would face the same fate outside the university.
The PU spokesman said that the university administration was following the policy of being self-reliant. He said that instead of increasing fee and putting financial burden on the poor parents of students, the PU administration, in the light of letters sent by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the chancellor, was choosing other means to increase its revenues. SKZMDC issues roll numbers to those who were never enrolled
Lahore: The administration of the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Medical & Dental College (SKZMDC) has allegedly issued roll number slips to six students who are not on the college's register.
The SKZMDC issued roll numbers to six candidates who appeared in the MBBS 1st professional special supplement, 2012, and annual 2013 examinations, but the students were not formally enrolled in the college. The Department of Physiology head Prof Sibgha Zulfiqar wrote a letter to the University of Punjab vice chancellor on the matter, informing him of the issuance of university's roll number to candidates who are not students of SKZMDC.
Prof Sibgha stated in the letter that Saba Hafeez, roll no 364, is not a regular student of the SKZMDC and did not appear in the viva voce and practical examination but she (Prof Sibgha) has been asked to give her internal assessment marks. Prof Sibgha also wrote a letter to the SKZMDC principal asking him to provide her the record of admission, attendance tests and send-up examination of the candidate so her internal assessment could be sent to the university.
The documents says that similarly, Abdus Sami Malik, roll no 428, is also not a regular student of this college, but the university roll number was issued to him and he appeared in viva voca and practical examination. Prof Sibgha says she also sought her record from the SKZMDC, but the authority concerned did not send her the record. Meanwhile, the University of the Punjab of Examination Department wrote a letter for confirmation of admissions.
The letter says that the controller of examination came to know through certain sources that some of the students got registration with the University of the Punjab as regular students of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Medical & Dental College and have appeared in MBBS first professional Part-1 examination 2013 of the university, whereas they have not actually studied in the said college. It says that they were admitted in different medical colleges and were registered with the University of Health Sciences. These candidates were also registered with the Punjab University.
When contacted, a Punjab University official, while speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that the vice chancellor has already initiated action in this regard, however, some high-ups were trying to approach him to protect the wrongdoers in SKZMDC. Daily times
