BA/BSc exams from June 11
Mingora, June 05: The annual examination of BA/BSc in University of Swat is scheduled to start from June 11. In a statement on Tuesday, the controller of examinations stated that regular students would get roll number slips from their respective colleges while private candidates had been issued roll number slips on their postal addresses.

17th convocation of GIK Institute held
Swabi: Governor Shaukatullah on Tuesday called upon the students of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIK) to acquire the modern day science and technology education to cope with the future challenges in a befitting manner.

"You are the builders of the country. I hope you will play a major role in overcoming the future challenges," he told the participants as chief guest at the 17th Convocation of GIK in Topi near here. He said that energy crisis and terrorism were the main challenges to the country.

The governor said that the country has immense resources but there was a need of the honest, committed, competent and trained manpower to take up the task of national reconstruction.

In all 163 graduates, Adam Khan and Dr Manzoor achieved PhD degrees in faculty of electronics while the rest did bachelor and master's in computer software, computer system, electronics, electrical, material and mechanical engineering and engineering sciences.

Iqra Ejaz was awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal for the over all best performance in the session while another coveted award; the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Gold Medal went to Salman Saeed for best performance in academic pursuits.

106 graduates awarded degrees
Islamabad: The Convocation 2013 of the Foundation University Medical College (FUMC) was held here on Tuesday.

Foundation University Islamabad (FUI) President Lieutenant General (r) Muhammad Mustafa Khan, who is also managing director of the Fauji Foundation, was the chief guest. FUI Rector Major General (r) Gul Muhammad was also present on the occasion.

As many as 107 MBBS graduates were awarded degrees by the FUI president. The chief guest also awarded 6 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 15 distinction certificates and 62 merit certificates. The award for best graduating student was clinched by Zaid Waqar.

In his welcome address, Foundation University Medical College Principal Major General (r) Dr. Nasim-ul-Majeed presented the annual college report, highlighting the progress and academic excellence it has achieved last year.

Lieutenant General (r) Muhammad Mustafa Khan said that the FUMC stands out as a prominent institution among the medical colleges of the country. "Several hundred graduates from the FUMC are in the mainstream of medical profession not only within Pakistan, but also in other countries. The purpose-built campus of the college with elaborate teaching facilities is considered as a model for contemporary institutions. Its close proximity with state-of-the-art teaching hospital is a great advantage, which provides an environment, conducive for learning and greatly facilitates the academic pursuit of the students," he added.

The president informed the audience that Foundation University is now an ISO certified institution and has been upgraded by the Higher Education Commission to 'W-4', which is the highest category. FUMC was the pioneer college in the private sector to achieve approval of the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council for 150 admissions in MBBS programme.

He said, construction of the new block to house the dental college is progressing as per schedule and it is expected that BDS programme shall be launched in January 2014. FUI president said that no academic programme can succeed without the diligence and commitment of faculty. FUMC is privileged to have qualified and dedicated faculty whose guidance has played a key role in achieving the high academic standards.

He advised the new graduates that they must not consider this success as the accomplishment of their goal. "This achievement of yours today only marks beginning of a long and continued endeavour to learn and absorb the new modalities of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. You are entering into the medical profession at a time when the pace of research and development in health sciences is tremendous. New discoveries are being made every day. It is really a challenge to keep oneself current with the changing scenario", he stressed.
