Extension in last date of registration for 9th grade exams demanded
Rawalpindi, May 09: Educationists of the city have flayed the Rawalpandi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) for creating troubles for teachers and administrations of government and registered schools by announcing May 12 as last date of registration for 9th grade examinations.
They said the teachers of the city are busy with election duties and the education board has set the very next day as the last date for registration. The educationists said that majority of the students have gone back to their ancestral villages with their parents for elections, therefore, it is not possible to complete the registration process by May 12. 42-year record of PBTE digitised
Lahore: Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) Chairman Dr Muhammad Shafique said on Wednesday the board had digitised its 42 years' manual record pertaining to 1962 to 2004 as well as made its all functions available online.
Dr Shafique was speaking at a prize and medals distribution ceremony for the top position holders in different diploma annual examinations for 2012 at PCSIR Laboratories, Ferozepur Road, on Wednesday. He said students could use board's online facility for downloading their registration cards, roll number slips and results. He said board's website had also been updated with the cooperation of GIZ and would soon be re-launched at a ceremony.
Tevta Chief Operating Officer Mansoor Qadir stressed the need to focus more on technical education to develop skilled manpower to bring about an economic revolution in the country. He said the international market was facing a dearth of skilled manpower and skilled Pakistanis could bring in big foreign exchange and become agents of change for the economic development of the country.
Later, the position holders were awarded medals and cash. Gold medals were awarded to Muhammad Kashif of the National Institute of Technology, Bahawalpur, in Matric Tech examination; Ali Raza Zulfiqar in Diploma in Special Education and Maria Khalid from Layyah in Diploma in Commerce.
In Diploma of Associate Engineer examination, Israr Ahmad of Swedish College, Rawalpindi, got gold medal, Rana Majid Mahmood of Lahore Polytechnic Institute, Sheikhupura, got silver medal and Muhammad Akbar of Premier College, Shuja Abad, received bronze medal.

Lahore: Punjab University has awarded four PhD degrees to scholars after completion of their research work. Vacation schedule for educational institutions approved
Peshawar: The Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the approval of the competent authority has notified schedule of vacations for the year 2013-14 for all the government and private colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the schedule, all the government and private colleges situated in plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will have summer vacation from June 15 to August 31, winter vacation from December 25-31 and spring vacation from April 1-7, 2014.
Also, all the government and private colleges situated in the upper cold areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will have summer vacation from July 1-31, winter vacation from December 25 to February 28, 2014 and spring vacation from April 1-7 next year. The news
Preston University organises 'Entrepreneurial Challenge 2013'
Islamabad: Preston University organised an entrepreneurial challenge under the theme of conservation.
The mega inter-university competition in which a large number of universities participated was held at the Islamabad campus of the university.
The purpose of organising the competition was to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among young students, build their confidence and groom them to venture into and adopt entrepreneurship as a career and contribute towards the economic development of the country. The All Pakistan Inter-University Competition was an acid test of the entrepreneurial acumen of the students in areas such as ICT, healthcare, environment, education, livestock & dairy, agriculture, energy, food, chemicals, mechanical engineering, media & communication, textile and garments, disaster relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction. Preston Entrepreneurial Challenge (PEC 13) hosted 43 teams from 24 universities, which participated in several rounds of events. After sifting on the basis of `Executive Summary' and `Elevator Pitch,' top 18 teams were short listed before moving on to the grand finale.
The teams which reached the grand finale of the competition were Preston University, Kohat and Islamabad, University of Health Sciences, Lahore, Gulab Devi Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore, Virtual University Lahore, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University for Women, Peshawar. app
AIOU plans to construct its own buildings across the country
Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has prepared a comprehensive plan to construct its own buildings across the country, especially in the far-flung regions to facilitate students, providing them with "best quality education at their door-step."
The new buildings will have all possible facilities including video-conferencing system, digital library, computer & science labs and classrooms, this was stated by AIOU vice chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi while inaugurating new campus building in Abbottabad on Wednesday. It is the twelfth AIOU academic building constructed during the last three years for providing access to quality education and electronically connecting students with the university's main academic network.
Prof. Sangi urged philanthropists and the public representatives to help in acquiring suitable land for the construction of the AIOU infrastructure.
"We can start the construction as soon as suitable land is made available on volunteer basis," he said adding that necessary funding for this purpose could immediately be provided.
He also urged the general public to help the university in establishing open-schooling System in the country.
The AIOU has planned to set-up one hundred thousand open schools in the country within the next five years and for this purpose it will seek services of about ten thousand tutors and trained students to educate the male and female population at the primary and middle level. A reasonable stipend will also be provided for this purpose.
The Open Schooling System inaugurated by President Asif Ali Zardari last week will lay a strong foundation for improving literacy rate in the country and providing excess to quality education across the board.
He announced that AIOU's study centres would soon start working in Kohat and Batagram. The university's building for its regional campus in Mianwali has almost been completed, whereas its buildings in Khudabad, Methi in Sindh will also be completed within the next six months.
The university has already acquired free land in Bannu, DI Khan, Lakki Marwat and Mardan where the construction work will start soon. The construction work for the AIOU's own buildings is also in progress in Lora lia, Noshgi, Mastung, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Kalat, Jhang, Gawadar and Sibi for running its study centres. online
