The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), under Oman's Ministry of Health, oversees the licensing exam that doctors, medical specialists, and dentists must pass before practicing in the Sultanate of Oman.

How the OMSB Oman exam works
The OMSB exam is a closed-book, computer-based multiple-choice test. Since April 2023, Oman has moved its exams from Prometric to Pearson VUE, so confirm you're booking through the current platform. Candidates complete DataFlow Primary Source Verification of their credentials as part of the eligibility process before booking their exam slot.
For specialist tracks (dental and medical specialties), the general pattern is a written exam of roughly 150 MCQs over about 3 hours with a 60% passing score, followed by a mandatory viva -- a case-scenario oral exam held before a 2-3 doctor panel at OMSB's Muscat facility. The General Practitioner exam, known as the OEGP (Oman Examination for General Practitioners), is different: it's a single 150-question written exam with no separate viva stage. Because each specialty's exact question count, timing, and passing threshold can vary, review your specific exam's guide above before you start preparing rather than assuming another specialty's figures apply to yours.
