Can I re-take USMLE Step to raise my score?
No. If you have passed a USMLE Step, you may not repeat it unless you are required to comply with a time limit or other criteria established by a medical licensing authority.
It is quite rare that the state medical licensing board will require high score for licensure to able to retake the step, but again such exceptions are quite rare. Any such retake will require special approval from both state board and USMLE. Similarly, while applying for a residency program, if higher score is required for admission then achieved score, a special permission might be granted for retake, which is again quite rare because of its special consideration.
One should try to achieve USMLE required score for different steps. Additionally, one should be aware that when USMLE re-takes should be made. .
